About Vidyalaya
GENESIS
Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Batwara, Srinagar, established on 1st February 1967, is one of the most reputed schools in Srinagar. It is administered by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body setup in 1965, under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, intending to impart uninterrupted education to the children of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence Personnel all over India and abroad.

The vision of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 Srinagar could be aligned with the broader vision of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) while also reflecting the unique characteristics and aspirations of the school community in Srinagar. "Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 Srinagar envisions fostering a vibrant learning community where knowledge, values, and talents converge to inspire excellence. KVS is a vibrant and premier educational institution in the field of quality school education. The KVS Jammu region was established in 1984 and has current jurisdiction over 38 KVs located in Jammu and Kashmir, with a dedicated, well-equipped and committed team of effective management and teachers for the intellectual, moral and spiritual development of the students. Under its working in the same direction, a galaxy of multidisciplinary curricular activities are organized on a regular basis to bring out the best in students. ‘All round personality development’ is an important focus area to enable our students to march with the ever changing world of technology and globalization. We believe in inclusive education with principle “to inspire the weak, to address the average and challenge the gifted children”. We are proud to help our students develop into the next generation dutiful, sensitive and responsible citizens. Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 01 Srinagar is the oldest and largest Kendriya Vidyalaya of the Kashmir Valley. It was established in the year 1967 AD. Since then till today it is continuously moving forward in the field of education. Its geographical location is very picturesque, the famous Jhelum river flows on its right side, while the Jabarwan mountain range is spread in the front, on which the temple of the famous Shankaracharya is visible from its premises. The country's largest national highway (NH.44) passes right in front of it. Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 01 Srinagar is continuously fulfilling the objectives established by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan - to develop a sense of national unity and Indianness among the students and To provide uninterrupted and proper education to the children of the transferred employees of the Government of India. It may be noted that this school admits Central employees as well as State Government employees and local children. Due to which different cultures get mixed in the classes here, each of the classes here is giving the message of unity in diversity while presenting the diverse India. This school conducts classes from Bal Vatika (Pre Primary) to XII. Here at senior secondary level (XIth and XIIth) all the three classes: Arts, Admission is given in commerce and science stream. Here the teachers are appointed at the national level, who understand the challenges and skills of the 21st century very well and develop leadership skills in the students accordingly so that they can become ideal citizens in future and lead the world.
